Explore the beaches of Monemvasia and the surrounding area.

If you are feeling like taking a swim, Monemvasia and its area offers a wide variety of beaches for every taste: whether sand or pebble, busy or isolated, all of them have crystal clean waters.

Here you will find a selection of what we think the best beaches in the area grouped mostly by distance and location criteria.

Abelakia Beach

It is the most known beach south of Monemvasia with an incredible view of the fortified city. This organized beach with powder-soft white sand and shallow, crystal clear waters is very popular. Many taverns and hotels are close to the beach.

Pori Beach

It is one of the longest beaches in Peloponnese with a 2km stretch of sand, 45m wide. Its orientation is southeast. It has an incredible view of the fortified town of Monemvasia. It is organized with shallow crystal waters and powder-white sand suitable for families. Wooden corridors facilitate the access of the bathers to the sea.

Xifia Beach

This long sandy beach, only 7km from Monemvasia, is well protected from north and etesian winds. Its knee-deep blue crystal waters are ideal for families.

‘Portelo’ beach

A small opening tucked away on the south side of the walls right at the bottom of the fortress leads to the pretty little cove of Portelo, that once served as the fortress’ supply port. It was also the only place Monemvasiots could go swimming.

Simos Beach

Simos beach is a lovely beach with thin pebbles and sand hills that reach up to 10m; a forest spreads around both beaches and creates a lovely scenery. The waters are blue-green and the dunes offer natural shade.

Vlychada Beach

Vlychada beach or Glyfada beach, rewards visitors with its pebbly shore that is perhaps the prettiest in the Zarakas area. The combination of colours – the blue sea, green slopes and red rocks – is certainly striking. There is a canteen there during the summer months.
